Angels & Demons

Well... how do I start this one...

If you are the type that is able to look at a book that a movie is based on and the movie itself as two separate entities... you can enjoy this movie. If you are the type that gets mad/frustrated when a movie is not the same as the book - do not bother spending your $8.00 on this movie. There are some key differences between the two and you will get frustrated. I have learned over the years that a movie is NEVER going to be exactly the same as the book and therefore try treat them as two different things. I'll admit I'm still a work in progress on this but I do try...

This story is one that I feel has been successfully modified. I haven't finished the book but got far enough to immediately notice the changes... but it worked. I was able to sit back and be entertained by the story that was presented and not be too distracted by the differences. There are some scenes that could be considered graphic or harsh... though the scenes are brief - they are there just the same. I would not advise taking children into this one or if your sensitive to torture/blood/branding...

I did enjoy seeing the places they went to, someday I'll get there to see them in person. The Pantheon, The Castle of Angels, The Vatican (though I'm told they were not given permission to film in the Vatican - it looked convincing to me), St Peters Square, and a tidbit or two of Rome. Being the little bit of Italian that I am... I figure I should some day get there.

Long and the short - I liked this one....

Star Trek

star_trek_movie_poster_imax Ok I know I owe apologies… haven’t blogged in ages… ok not since Oscar season.  There have been a few worth while movies and I will blog about them… I promise.

Tonight’s blog is about Star Trek… part 1 or part 1 billion and 2??  I think it is a well done part 1.  Ok that was snide and I did go into this thinking that this couldn’t possibly live up expectation let alone the dynasty that sat before it.  There was a lot to live up to besides it’s own hype.

It did… This movie in my opinion would make Gene (Star Trek creator in case your not a Trekkie) proud.  I’m sure he’s up there in his pod or whatever looking down on us saying – I told you it would work.  The script held true to the characters we all love while providing a convenient yet … necessary creative loop hole with which to continue on a whole new direction to take our favorite characters  Hats off…  Script was good, casting excellent and the cheese ball effects were left on the editing room floor (yes I know this all done by computers now but you know what I mean).

If you like sci-fi – go see this.  The bigger the screen the better.  I think it is a well done part 1.   I look forward to seeing more from this crew.
