3:10 to Yuma

310_to_yuma_movie_poster1

Good flick!  Russell Crowe and Christian Bale were awesome in this movie.  This film is one of the best westerns that has been made in recent years.

It's gritty, bloody, dirty, masculine, and convincing... It's a WESTERN!  There's fantastic acting and direction.  This film lives up to the original - a rarity as we all know.

I'd have liked to have seen more award recognition for this film - it was that good...  This is a film that brings back the essence of westerns of old.

OMG - Matthew's eyes in this film!  I remember seeing this film in theatres and that was practically all I saw.  Yummy!  Yes, I know he had contacts, but still!

This is a action adventure movie with a far bit of comedy tossed in for good measure. Steve Zahn is hilarious!  Someone get the man a hat!

This is an amusing movie the family could enjoy.  There are a couple of scenes at the beginning you may want to breeze through if watching with children... might turn their little stomachs.  Those scenes are few so no worries that you'll be skipping through those the whole time.

If you like Kevin Spacey, you'll like this film. Entertaining, provocative, head-scratcher. Ok, so I sometimes wish I had the brains to figure out how counting cards works.

This film is a bunch of MIT students who can do just that and the consequences of their actions. Based on a true story.

I enjoyed this movie. It held my attention for the 120 plus minutes. Semi-predictable simply because of the subject matter. My favorite scene I think is near the beginning with the couple in the men's clothing store that the lead character works in... It was in most of the previews so I'm not spoiling anything by telling you that much.

Enjoy!

The Forbidden Kingdom

Fun and entertaining.  Something the whole family could watch. This is, I think, the first movie with Jackie Chan and Jet Li in the same film - I'd love to see them do more projects together.

It's sort of a slow beginning in that there's some back story that needs to be told, but it picks up.

It's not a 10 but it's not bad either.  If your in the mood for a entertaining comedy for the family - rent this film.

Igor

igor_finalteaser-(2) With all of the talent behind this movie I expected something better.  Maybe I'm finally getting to old for animated movies... I hope not!

The animation it self was a better than so-so... but the story - ugh.  So much so - many of the kids sitting around me couldn't hold still and the man at the end of the row was snoring like my dad.  His kids snuck back in at the end and woke him up.

I did chuckle a time or two but not enough.  I found my self bored and ready to leave early on in the movie.  The rest of my party I think felt the same...

Thank god I went to a matinee!

My Fair Lady

my_fair_ladyWithout question one of the greatest films of all time.

The music, the songs, the acting, grace, elegance, and style. Classic in every way.

For one to consider themselves a lover of films, this film, among several other great classics, is a must see.

To be able to have seen this film on the big screen, what a treat that would have been. In the time when movies were long and a true escape. Even on DVD it has an intermission. Kills me to go the theatre and pay more then $7.50 for a movie not even 90 minutes long!! This film I'd gladly pay $20 to seen on the big screen. Gee does that sound like I like this movie or what?

Even as a peasant flower girl, Audrey Hepburn has grace and elegance that can never be hidden. God she's beautiful. There are times you want to slap Rex Harrison and say "Buddy, it's not all about you"... funny how that's the type of characters I always see him play - need to research that some more.

Just read a remake of this is in the works - oh I hope they don't kill it too much.

Johnny Depp & Disney Studios - Fact or Fiction?

Ok ladies of my life I have news... The man we all lust for - JD is reportedly doing 2-3 upcoming movies for Disney - The Lone Ranger as Tonto, Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland" as the Mad Hatter (no shock there - he's in every Tim film).  And give me an ugh and a drum role for this one... Yes believe it or not I said UGH for the next thing... The next one stems from Disney's ability to NOT leave well enough alone - no they get something successful and they have to add on to it until they beat the horse beyond dead..

Ok so I'll spill already - Disney Studio's president, Dick Cook, announced on September 24, 2008 that Disney promises to "throw in" another Pirates of the Caribbean movie - Yes number 4 - for "good measure".

I love JD and I loved Pirates 1, 2 and 3 but what in the neck could 4 possibly be about???  Can't they leave well enough alone?  I'm kind of surprised that JD is going to do this, but whatever.  It's still supposedly just a rumor, but the above statements were quoted from the Disney Studio's president at the Walt Disney Studios Showcase.  The balance of the rumor is that Elizabeth and Will will not be part of the 4th movie, but rather this will be more about Jack, Barbossa, the Fountain of Youth and a "super natural terror"... Hmmm - thinking "whatever".

SNL - Palin/Clinton Skit

Ok I know this was a couple of weeks ago - I wasn't going to blog on it because I knew it would be EVERYWHERE but I just can't hold back any longer...

I.Q.

iqI had forgotten what an entertaining movie this is.

Romantic Comedy with some cheese.  It's cutesy, funny and amusing.

Think 1950's, chop tops, mathematicians, theorists, mechanics and bone heads.  Theorists decide to play cupid with Einstein taking the lead.  With Walter Matthau as Einstein you know it's going to be funny.  Supporting cast of Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, Tony Shalhoub... with Meg Ryan of 1994 - you know this is going to be a stuffy fastidious romance and that is what makes her and the rest of the cast so cutesy funny in this film.  Haven't seen it in ages and am glad I stumbled upon it again.

In the mood for a romance, give a spin in the DVD.

Burn After Reading

burn-after-reading-posterFunny, twisted, semi-unpredictable, hilarious...

This movie was true Coen brothers movie.  Really enjoyed this.  Sit back relax and watch.  It's not so twisted that you have to really work to keep up.  A couple of times where your scratching your head thinking did they really just show that??  Did that just happen??  Was it a dream sequence - I'll spoil it for you - no dream sequences in this movie!

Oh and I haven't even mentioned the amazing cast.  I've always liked Frances - can't think of anything she's done where I didn't love her work, this is no let down.  George and Brad - well no need to say anything there ... ok so one thing... it's hilarious to see Brad Pitt with a skunk like dye job acting like a complete boob... John Malkovich - an under recognized completely AMAZING actor and one of the best Hollywood has ever seen - he plays this part perfectly {shocker I know}.  Tilda - I'm not sold on her yet, seems all she's capable of playing is a cold unfeeling bitch.

Get out and go see it... it's not a must see on the big screen, but add to you list of films to see.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

i_now_pronounce_you_chuck_and_larry_movie_posterThis is a movie that I had intended to see... however, it's been on HBO lately and they've been running it. Out of lack of anything else to watch, I stopped on this movie.

It was better than I thought it would be. Glad I didn't see it in the theatre, but for a laugh, it's Netflix worthy. I laughed a lot and shook my head in "oh my god I can't believe that happened" a fair bit too.

28 Days

28_Days_PosterNot to be confused with 28 Days Later (wanna- be horror flick)...

This is an older Sandra Bullock movie - I love this movie. It's a serious subject matter but this film keeps it light. It's entertaining and not too heavy but drives the point home.

The movie is about a Gwen's experience in a court forced drug/alcohol rehab stint. It's funny, dramatic, entertaining, and yet it could be that mirror some of us need. Not necessarily for the getting over drugs or alcohol - for those emotionally constipated parts of our lives and how to get rolling in a better direction again.

I love Alan Tudyk in this movie - his character alone makes me laugh every time...

Righteous Kill

Disappointing... Sorry to say. I thought it was going to be a really good movie based on who was in it. I mean Deniro and Pacino - how could one go wrong? Well, they gave it the good ol' college try. Their performance was above average - no shock there. However, the script was confused, confusing, no confused... all over the place.

It started off well but seemed to get lost. Suddenly the end is coming and the writers realize they have to wrap everything up pretty quick and make sense of it all.

Unfortunately, I can't really call this entertaining either. Not enough story to make sense of it all and a hole lot of foul language.

When will writers realize that a barrage of foul language doesn't do a damn thing to enhance the movie. And it doesn't cover up a bad script either... If nothing else, it puts off a lot of movie goers...

Fool's Gold

Fun movie - Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey make a great team yet again, good music soundtrack, and in watching the movie you get a sense that they had fun making the movie. The same feeling you get when you watch Mama Mia! as far as the chemistry of all of the actors.

The scenery is spectacular - ok so I'm a turquoise ocean junkie... so sue me. The opening scene is worth renting it alone - even before you see a person - it's hilarious. Darn paper - gets away from you every time.

Meet Bill

This film has a bit of a slow opening, but I had to laugh when he opened his office drawer. I used to have one of those... not all over the place like he does - just the drawer at the office.

It's funny but weird, good but bad... It's like watching a train wreck... you really wanna turn it off, but then something happens and you just can't help yourself. Then comes the laugh... I will say the kid in the movie reminds me of someone close to our household but I wont name names... especially when it comes to Jessica Alba... and that made me laugh and enjoy parts of this movie more.

I liked it... it flows and you can't always figure out why it's going the way it is. You just wanna slap him and say snap out of it dude but it happens... not just for him either.

Born Into Brothels

What an amazing film! Oscar well deserved...

These children are so inspirational. How they live and what they survive through... One girl says she doesn't care if she's rich or poor - she's happy either way. You watch this and wonder how, but crazy as it seems - most of the time they are. While your heart bleeds for these children, you can't help but smile with them. One of my favorite parts of this film is when the children get to go to the beach... they have so much fun. It's a little thing but I'm sure something they will remember for the rest of their lives. Some may never get back there, but they'll always have their pictures and their memories.

A film everyone should see - it will make you appreciate what you have.

To purchase the photo's by the children and support the program that helped the children in the film and others - visit Kids With Cameras. By clicking on each child - you will find the photos by each individual.
